The Primal Parent

The Power to Pursue Our Dreams

Kids are major time suckers, aren’t they? Having kids is amazing but they have a way of speeding up time and slowing down your journey through it. With kids in the picture, you’re lucky to pursue one tenth of your dreams and very slowly achieve only some of your goals. Or so it seems.

It’s not just parents. Almost everyone ends up wishing they would have done so many of the things they didn’t have time to do.

It doesn’t have to be this way. In the 60-100 years that we will likely have to fulfill our dreams, all we have to do is do and we’ll make every single one of them.

So why don’t we then? Why do we quit? Why do we give up? This question has a lot of answers. Here are three:

Energy.

We don’t have the energy to make things happen.

Belief.

We don’t believe we are capable or competent.

Impatience.

If it’s going to take years to accomplish, why bother?

These are the real time suckers – feeling tired, kicking our feet up in front of the TV each night, drinking with buddies every weekend, lamenting our shortcomings every time we start a project, and wishing we were already a great success.

People ask me all the time how I get so much done, where I find time with kids and work. First, I eat a nutrient dense diet and I exercise. Hormone imbalance and nutrient deficiencies can rob us of all motivation and energy. Second, I work towards my goals everyday. I don’t accomplish anything over night and don’t expect to.

Over the last few years, I have enjoyed writing my new book Primal Moms Look Good Naked, which will be published next month, and writing an album. Now I am trying to get it recorded and, while time and energy are not standing in the way, money is. I don’t have enough of it to take this album to the studio. If I have helped you in any way with this blog, you can return the favor now by helping me fulfill a dream. Thank you.

  1. I’m looking forward to your book. Definitely going to buy it!

  2. Hi Peggy -

I couldn’t agree more on the need to progress bit by bit once children arrive :-) To me, it feels like a huge chunk of my time has been sucked up in a bundle of great fun, incredibly cute laughs and during certain periods huge tiredness ;-)

For me who liked getting things done by diving in it deep and just moving forward as much as I could in one go, I’ve certainly have to adjust and learn to use a more fragmented available time.

You’re a great inspiration in the Paleo/Primal/etc community plus the album sounds fantastic, so I’ve joined the happy backers of the album now quite eagerly waiting for its release!

Best of luck on the campaign, I certainly hope it’s successful.

PS: I’ll keep an eye on it and spread the word again in a week time if needed :-)

    Best,
    - Julien

  3. I was not expecting major classical vocals! Cool! Is your album going to be some classical/contemporary blend? That would be sweet.

I have a masters degree in clarinet (yeah, get a job with that one…) and keep telling myself that I’m going to take voice lessons. This post must be a sign!

  4. Thank you for tugging on my memory string, Peggy. I’ve been meaning to ask, did you ever get my email re the contest and my address? I never got confirmation, and my email’s been really buggy, so I just wanted to make sure.
    Sorry for the tangent.
