Toddler Help!

My family is about 1 week in to the process of transitioning to paleo. Prior to this my kids were accustomed to eating yogurt, crackers, pb&j, and cheese on the daily. My 3.5 year old while picky, will eventually eat what she's given when she realizes there isn't another option. My 1.5 year old is the one I'm worried about. He's so stubborn and picky! He might try a few bites of what we're eating and then pretty much just whine for the rest of the meal. I can't get him to eat any meat and hardly any eggs so I'm worried he's not getting enough protein. He's currently living off of bananas, sweet potatoes, and almond milk for the most part. I'm beginning to get discouraged, but I don't want to go back to buying the bread and junk I used to buy. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I agree being responsible for feeding a baby is the hardest part. My 18-month old is very picky as well and I am out of options. Help us Peggy!

Congratulations on your transition. I totally feel your pain on this one. It is much more challenging to transition young children to the paleo lifestyle than even a reluctant spouse! I also have 2 young kids that are 3 and 2. While I'm not all the way there, things are getting better for us, but it's been an uphill struggle all the way so far. A couple of things that I did was to remove any non-paleo type food from the house. I also started meticulously packing a lunch for the kids each day. I've had to do a TON of trial and error to find snacks/meals that the kids enjoy and build up a list of "go to" foods in order to get them to eat this way without the whining and refusal. It's taken a lot of time but I'm keeping at it.


If you're only offering certain foods in the house or through lunch boxes, eventually they will eat what you are giving them but finding paleo treats that they like will help you along the way. Experiment, experiment, experiment.


I'm still struggling with issues of food outside the house. For instance, at preschool when all of the children are offered animal crackers or some sort of snack. I have not gotten to the point that I have decided that they should not participate in this, only because I'm afraid of them being ostracized or feeling different.


I also struggle with family members that do not subscribe to our lifestyle. My goal right now is to expose them to the "correct way" of eating as much as possible so that when they grow up, they can experiment, make mistakes and then realize that Mom and Dad had it right. Kids learn by example.

I’ve suffered with multiple and sometimes debilitating health problems since I was 10 years old including psoriasis, arthritis, collitis, severe allergies, chronic bronchitis and the list goes on an on. I spent most of my childhood and my early adulthood trying to fix my problems through conventional means and prescriptions from doctors that were only medicating my symptoms and I suffered further injury as a result of these. When I finally discovered the primal/paleo diet, my health started to improve immediately and the problems that I have been plagued with have now pretty much disappeared. My husband began this lifestyle change at the same time that I do and he is feeling fantastic too. It has changed our life and we are now committed to living this way, raising our children this way and inspiring others to look at their health in a different way.
