First Foods for Baby
on: October 18, 2011, 17:36

So… this is my third baby, and starting solids with each one has been different. We did the standard cereal/ homemade baby food with my first. With my second, we did baby-led weaning and solids – where he basically ate soft, safe food off our plates when he was ready – no baby food or purees.

He's 6 months and shows interest in food, has two bottom teeth. We've tried a couple bites of natural applesauce, mashed avocado and banana, but it mostly got spit back out. It was mostly just to give him a taste and see what he did with it…he was more interested in chewing on the spoon.

We're NOT in any hurry, he's perfectly happy with breastmilk, and so are we. I'm just trying to think of what kinds of foods are going to be best to start him off on… and I'm thinking bone broths and egg yolks might be best. (Grains aren't even on the radar.)

Any advice from primal parents?

So I'd be interested in hearing how this went- I see this post is over a year old now. My daughter is almost 5 months and definitely showing interest in food. She is exclusively breastfed at this point, but some days it feels like it's not enough. She gets hungry and is attached to me all day and night. With her teeth coming in now, this is making me sore! I've given her a few nibbles of avocado and butternut squash, but my husband and I are concerned about other fruits and such (normal baby foods it seems) being too much sugar and starting her on a road we don't want to go down.

Help? Suggestions?

Thanks!
