Pregnant Primal Exercise
on: September 8, 2011, 15:16

I am wondering what types of exercises are safe to do while pregnant. Is sprinting still a good idea? Should I be concerned about raising my heart rate to near max? Also, are any of the "Essential Movements" (from Primal Blueprint) not OK to do while pregnant?

Thank you!

Hi! Mark Sisson (of Marksdailyapple.com) -he's 'primal' as opposed to 'paleo', two sides of the same coin if you ask me- doesn't recommend exceeding 75% of your max heart rate.

When I was pregnant with my first child I did yoga- regular, not prenatal- until about month before he was born. I had a very regular, established yoga practice at that point, but I think that even if you hadn't done any yoga before, starting a prenatal yoga practice would be ideal. Avoid twists, but after that you can do whatever feels good for you.

I walked a lot, did yoga. Basically, what I understand is: if you were doing it before, keep doing it once pregnant. Listen to you body. Some people ride bikes well into their pregnancy, others feel off balance. However, now is not the time to start running if you haven't been running for awhile (or ever). Don't start something intense!

Of course, all of this is just from my own experience and reading. Good luck!
