More starch for fertility?
on: August 22, 2011, 09:38

I will give you a little background before the actual question – you can skip the first paragraphe if you like to…I am 33 years old and have a two years old daughter. I conceived her naturally after unsuccessful hormonal treatment that I eventually had to stop (conceived her 3,5 months after stopping the treatment with only having mentruated once which was 2,5 months before conception). I always had very irregular cycles when I was not on the pill. Now we would like to have a second child. After my daughter`s birth I was on the pill for 6 months but I felt awful and I stopped taking hormones of any kind for good. Then I had my period for 14 months every 5-6 weeks and I ovulated (used a test stick to confirm this). This were the most regular cycles I ever had but we thought it was too early for a second child. Now I wish to conceive again but I had my last period 2,5 months ago and I am not pregnant. I didn´t change anything, I eat Paleo for 10 months now. My body fat it relatively low but this is the way I am built and I didn`t lose weight recently…

There was a discussion on the Mark`s daily apple forum and someone explained that slighlty increasing starch intake (I think it was to 100 g/day) should help with fertility. I would like to know other people`s opinion on this. I think I am doing fine the way I eat now without counting macronutrients but with very little starch (I have white rice or potatoes now and then). I am willing to increase the amount if this is really supposed to help but I wouldn`t like to make experiments that cause more harm than good…

Thank you so much!

I believe it's the opposite, at least for me… but I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance 10 years ago and Type 2 a year ago.

The less carbs and starch I have, the more fertile I am. The less carbs and starch I have, the fewer PCOS symptoms I have.

My MIL started Atkins a couple years ago, and after going through menopause five years previously, she got her period back.
