Tea time!
on: August 14, 2011, 20:22

My kids really love tea, the meal. And so do I. It has been a source of sadness for me that the traditional teatime food isn't really conducive to health. At all. So I've been keeping an eye out for tea friendly items.

Today, we had pu-erh tea with raw milk, crab salad on cucumber slices, fresh peaches, and walnut crackers with a very simple frosting made of coconut milk and a tiny bit of honey. No grains, and a very little sweetener. I even made two plates of crabcumbers, as my middle son called them, one plain and one sprinkled with aleppo pepper for some kick.

It's crazy to think of how many things in there cause issues for some people, but the best thing for me was that it was still very tea-like, even the walnut crackers had a similar texture to shortbread. And yet, I didn't feel like crap after, like I always do after a traditional tea with sandwiches, scones, and pastries.

And my kids loved all of it. And it was all stuff I could conceivably send in a lunch to school.

I love this! What a pretty image. I lived in London for a while and enjoyed tea time too – that was before I went Paleo. Never again have I had tea time. It's great to be able to recreate an old favorite with alternative ingredients!
