Introducing the Primal Life Organics Gum Serum and Tooth Powder!

Primal Life Organics is a fantastic natural body care line and guess what, it just got better. Added to the line are tooth powders and the brand new, never seen before gum serum.

These two products are amazing. I use them myself will never go back to using anything else. I have three of the 5 tooth powder flavors – spearmint, anise, and cinnamon (I can’t even choose a favorite – they’re all great). Seriously, I’ve tried all kinds of natural tooth pastes and powders and I’ve never come across one that is so natural, so flavorful, and so effective. The thought put into the ingredients is impressive.

I’m going to let Trina, the owner, tell you all about them in her own words:

Dirty Mouth Primal Tooth powder

Tooth powder

This refreshing tooth powder is made from a premium blend of three earthen clays, baking soda, and essential oils (peppermint, spearmint, cinnamon, anise, or cool orange). It is better for your teeth than commercial toothpastes (read more in  the dangers of commercial toothpaste) for many many reasons.

  • The pH of our saliva is influenced by the food we eat and the bacteria present in our mouth. An acidic pH is a major cause of tooth decay.  Enamel is composed of minerals, primarily calcium, phosphate and hydroxyapatite.  An acidic oral environment (pH less than 7) disrupts the enamel, weakens the tooth and minerals, such as calcium and phosphate, leech out to be used in other parts of the body. This process is known as demineralization and demineralization leads to decay.
  • Baking soda is alkaline with a pH of 8.1 and will neutralize the acids in the mouth and promote tooth remineralization making them cavity-resistant. Baking soda acts as a very mild abrasive for cleansing and polishing the teeth, kills germs, removes odors and can help freshen the breath.
  • The enamel continuously cycles between demineralization and the reverse process called remineraliation.  Remineralization occurs when calcium, phosphorus  and other minerals and trace elements from the saliva and other sources reabsorb and strengthen the tooth.  In order for remineralization to occur, the teeth must be clean (and free from any glycerin- which can coat the teeth and prevent remineralization), saliva flow must be ample and there must be a supply of calcium and important minerals and trace elements available for absorption.  (Glycerin is a common ingredient in most commercial toothpastes)
  • To promote remineralization and strengthen dental health, uses a blend of three primal earth clays that provide trace elements and  minerals important to dental health.  Our blend of earthen clay is excellent cleansing agent for the delicate, vascular gum tissue and can help prevent plaque formation and treat mouth sores or inflammation.   This unique blend of clay is rich in silica, aluminum, iron, sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium, zinc, copper, phosphorus and more.

Ingredients which help to achieve these benefits include:

Bentonite clay is nontoxic and rich in vital minerals that are very beneficial for our teeth and gums – like calcium and potassium.  It is a very mild abrasive clay that gently scrubs and beautifully polishes the teeth. Bentonite clay has been used for decades as a treatment for numerous health conditions and acts as a detoxifying agent to help fight gum disease by strengthening the body’s natural immunity. It works as an astringent by helping to remove tartar and clean the gums.

White kaolin clay is very rich in aluminum and is high in calcium, silica, zinc and magnesium.  It helps to whiten and polish the teeth.

French green clay (also Known as Illite Clay or Sea Clay) is very absorbent, and literally “drinks” oils, toxic substances, and impurities from the tissues   Mined from bedrock quarries in France, it is sun-dried, completely natural, unscented, and fragrance free.  Green clay is a bio-mineral, and contains decomposed plant matter as well as many trace minerals, such as: silica, aluminum, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc, selenium, cobalt, manganese, phosphorous, silicon, micro-algaes, kelp, and phyto-nutrients. French Green Clay also has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, which may be helpful with some periodontal conditions.

Organic essential oils are used for their antiseptic qualities and to freshen the mouth and make you forget that you are brushing your teeth with Primal Dirt!

Disclaimer:  This WILL NOT taste like commercial, sweetened toothpaste. There are NO sweeteners in this Tooth powder.  It may take two or three uses to adapt to the taste.

Dirty Mouth Boost, Primal Gum Serum

Gum Boost

The Dirty Mouth Boost is a brand new product aimed at people trying to heal from periodontal disease or who just want to prevent it. It is also great for helping to relieve symptoms associated with fungal and viral infections (cold sores) as well as gingivitis and denture stomatitis (inflammation of the mouth).

Periodontitis is a serious oral infection that can cause tooth decay or even loss.  Recent studies suggest oral infections can contribute to chronic inflammation, a condition increasingly associated with the progression of diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, pneumonia and even low birth weight children.  Maintaining dental health is an important daily activity that can significantly reduce the bacteria associated with chronic inflammation.

Essential oils are an excellent, natural, Paleo alternative for the prevention and treatment of dental diseases.  Dirty Mouth Boost contains 11 essential oils specifically formulated to support all aspects of oral health including the teeth, gums and mucous membranes.

The mix of 11 essential oils (extra virgin olive oil, tea tree, peppermint, spearmint, lemon, eucalyptus, clove, lavender, myrrh, cinnamon, chamomile, cypress) contain numerous properties beneficial for dental heath including:

  • Antimicrobial
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antifungal
  • Antiviral
  • Antibacterial
  • Antiseptic
  • Astringent
  • Analgesic
  • Local anesthetic

Organic tea tree EO: Antimicrobial & anti-inflammatory.  Tea tree oil can be a powerful dental pain killer and should help kill infective microorganisms (likely even those involved in tooth decay and gum disease.)

Organic peppermint EO:  Analgesic, anesthetic (topical), antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antispasmodic, astringent. Helps fight mouth infections, gum disease and bad breath.

Organic spearmint EO: Analgesic, anesthetic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astringent.

Organic lemon EO: Stimulating, calming, anti-infection, detoxifying, antiseptic, disinfectant, antifungal, astringent etc. Enhances gum tissue.

Organic cypress EO: Astringent, antiseptic, haemostatic (stops bleeding gums), vasoconstrictor, etc.

Organic eucalyptus EO: Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial.  Helps relieve periodontal disease.

Organic lavender EO: enhances blood circulation and tissue formation

Organic myrrh EO: Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, astringent. Can be an effective means to ensure good oral hygiene and help heal mouth sores.

Organic cinnamon EO: Analgesic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic.

Organic chamomile EO: Antiseptic, antibiotic, analgesic, bactericidal, anti-inflammatory, anti-infectious. Enhances tissue formation.

Organic clove EO: Antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral, natural fungicide.  Acts as a powerful disinfectant and local anesthetic for toothaches, sore gums and mouth ulcers. Clove oil contains the compound eugenol, which has been used in dentistry since numerous years. The characteristic smell of clove oil helps in removing bad breath. Clove is also effective against cavities.

  1. These sound awesome! Would LOVE to know if it is possible to avoid the mild abrasives. I have a few crowns in my mouth and was told to avoid baking soda in month cleansing products, sadly, as it presumably scratches/ dulls the porcelain. Thoughts?

    Julia

  2. I never knew there was a healthier way to get clean teeth & gums. Quite an eye opening article, thanks!

  3. I’ve been looking for a better natural toothpaste. Would love to win!

  4. I feel a little silly saying this, but I never really thought about what was in my toothpaste! Thanks for all the info!

  5. Sounds wonderful. I’ve been using coconut oil and baking soda and have had great results.

  6. Lately I’m stepping up my game in the paleo way of life, and I’m intriged by the paleo beauty care solutions. I would love to try this!

  7. These sound great! I’ve found out that it’s pretty much impossible to find a good toothpaste even in health food stores.

  8. I’ve been using a toothpaste recipe from Wellness Mama. I’d be thrilled to use this!

  9. I’d love to win this tooth powder! I’m currently trying to remineralize my teeth with bone broth, liver, fermented foods, etc. and this will most likely accelerate the process.

  10. I’ve been experimenting with flouride free toothpastes for years but really want to get away from glycerin. I’ve had some success with oil pulling and using an ionic toothbrush recently but lately have been plagued with ulcers and shocking bad breath that really needs sorting. These products sound like they could be perfect for the job!

  11. This stuff looks great! I am using toothsoap now, really like it but am about out so would love to try something new. And I really like reading about the gum serum. Thanks for sharing this.

  12. At first the idea of brushing my teeth with clay seemed a bit odd, but that’s just a knee jerk reaction…I’ve always been one to try new things!

  13. After learning that teeth can actually remineralize I have been on the look out for something my daughter and husband will use for brushing. For me I have been content with coconut oil with clove oil and periodically oil pulling. My husband is fighting an abcess so I would like for him to try the tooth powder and the serum.

  14. I’ve been wanting to make my own tooth powder/paste for awhile now, but just haven’t done it. Well, actually I tried once when I ran out of toothpaste, but the orange and clove oil combo with coconut oil and baking soda just didn’t do it for me. Would love to try a product that works great and tastes yummy, so it would be great if you pick me! If not, I’ll be ordering some for sure. Thanks :-)

  15. Sounds like great products! I’ve been using baking soda and coconut oil straight up alternated with regular toothpaste (Had a whole bunch from Costco haha…) and I’d love to go 100% natural!

    • I use a even mix of baking soda and coconut oil myself! I add a little essential mint oil for flavor.

  16. I brush my teeth with oils, mostly, which has noticeably helped stop the damage but isn’t helping put it back together. These guys are totally on my list, when I have any spare income or possibly Christmas. My mom is so indulgent about all the “weird hippie” things I ask for. *grin*

  17. These do sound awesome! I’ve been making my own for a while, but have no essential oils, so the taste of baking soda is a bit too much for my one-year-old. Thanks for sharing this!

    • try adding xylitol for sweetness and cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, or anise for taste – works for years with our youngest – she prefers our powder even to sweet-tasting spry – one of the not-too-horrible brands—

  18. I love Primal Life Organics…and am ecstatic they introduced these dental care products!! Thanks for the update, Peggy!!

I have also gone through so many different “natural” brands. I love the transition I have made from vegetarian to vegan – raw – and now a paleo approach…and the products I use have paralleled that shift! It amazes me still just thinking about it. My current dental care product is Ascended Health’s Oralive Dental Elixer…awesome stuff…but a little pricey for my college student budget.

I will definitely have to check out PLO’s new products. <3 and xx's

  19. These sound fantastic! I’ve been shopping around for a new toothpaste.

  20. I’ve been using the tooth powder while recovering from jaw surgery and love it, I’d love to try the serum too!

  21. I have 3 daughters and I am constantly looking for the most natural thing on the market. I was so frustrated when I found out a lot if not all of the “natural” toothpastes and the things we were using had so many horrible things in them! This would be fantastic and even if we don’t win I am definitely going to check their stuff out!! PS. your blog rocks out loud!!

  22. Hey Evelyn! I would love to win this! My husband has had major tooth decay and other teeth problems for years and I know this stuff would give his mouth the boost it needs! We are an all natural and real food family but we haven’t come across any toothpaste that we like yet.

  23. These sound good enough to eat. ;) Toothpaste is out next step away from mainstream products. I grew up using tooth powder or baking powder, and currently use Tom’s…but I heard that Colgate-Palmolive owns them? “Natural” products are such a deceptive crock…I’m ready to brush my teeth with dirt, and especially my kid’s teeth!

  24. I also have been using coconut oil, baking soda, stevia and peppermint oil mixed together. And like it much better than commercial toothpaste, but would love to try this product.

  25. Now that I’ve got my diet and exercise in order, I’d love to start getting my dental care in order, too . . . and even if I don’t win I want to get the gum serum for my dad, he works really hard to avoid periodontal disease (since his dentist told him he was at risk) and I think this would really help him out.

  26. I started making my own toothpaste after I got pregnant (I actually got a comment from a nurse post delivery about how healthy my teeth looked). I have been getting ready to tweak my recipe into a powder with clay, but may just buy this tooth powder instead. With a new baby demanding attention, its nice to have the option to buy something healthy if I don’t have the time to make it anymore.

  27. I would love to try them out! I recently converted to using Uncle Harry’s mouth products, which have similar ingredients: http://www.uncleharrys.com/store/index.php/mouth-care-c-48?osCsid=95udbfnkc5bes319kojl5p9r15

  28. I need to get on the better tooth product wagon. I just get wary as I have RA and have extra issues with my gums, but it sounds great,,,mmm cinnamon :)

  29. Evelyn! Pick me! Why? Because your weirdness (we are all weird!) inspires me like never before. You eat Raw liver which is weird and awesome. I finally enjoy chicken liver pâté on cheese like its bacon or on veggies like its, well, “OK”

I’ve been using an equal mix of coconut oil and baking soda with a little mint but if it’s too cold the mixture gets too solid and if it’s too warm then the mixture gets too liquidity! So a powder would rock my world!

Ill be buying one next week either way but winning a pack would toadally kick some ass! ;)

  30. I am pregnant so I’ve been wondering about demineralization – interesting! It is said to be more common while preggers. I also have a wisdom tooth that decided to come in last week… I’m planning to keep it so long as there are no issues but wisdom teeth can be more succeptible to issues. Anyway, I would LOVE to try these products!

  31. This sounds fantastic & I appreciate you sharing the info as well as hosting the giveaway. I’m so excited to try both products!

  32. I have definitely been looking for new oral care products. The “natural” stuff in the stores just aren’t cutting it. Time for change.

  33. I haven’t made the switch to natural myself yet (now sounds like the perfect time!) but my 6 yo daughter has never had a commercial toothpaste near her mouth. They just discontinued our brand so I’m searching for something new for her.

  34. I never thought ( though why should I be surprised) how difficult it is to find good mouth care products that don’t contain a ton of crap in them. I would love to try her products!

  35. thank u for sharing these products for us who are trying to achieve a more natural life!!! I’ll def check out her site!

  36. I’ve been trying to make my own toothpaste. One is coconut oil and baking soda, the other has some clay and myrrh. Sounds like these would be the best of both! I am loving the Primal Life Organics acne treatment!

    • Lisa- Glad to hear you like Banished! http://www.primallifeorganics.com/collections/facial-products/products/banished-primal-blemish-serum-0-5-oz

  37. Oh wow! We were just talking about this. Our little boy has ASD and is gfcf and sugar/dye free and REALLY food sensitive. We have been checking in to different tooth pastes, so i will certainly look at this closely! Thanks!

  38. Have had majority receding gums for several years now. Would love to heal them naturally!

  39. I remember as a kid reading about charcoal and honey being used, so I found a piece from the fire, and mixed in honey. My mother was NOT impressed. These days I do the coconut oil and baking soda/salt thing too. I keep meaning to pick up some essential oils for flavour, though the coconut oil definitely is an improvement over straight baking soda and salt.

  40. I was doing oil pulling and trying really, really hard not to throw up! I’m excited about the possibility of using tooth powder!

  41. Would love to have something a little more luxurious than my baking soda and coconut oil :)

  42. This stuff looks great. Hoping I can get my kids to switch.

  43. I often have tooth sensitivity and have wondered if it is due to the toothpaste I use – I’d love to try this stuff and see if it helps!

  44. Looks awesome! I’m definitely looking to go more natural with my beauty products and this would be so great to try!

  45. I’ve been making my own toothpaste with EOs, baking soda, calcium and minerals with almond oil (allergic to coconut oil). Hadn’t heard of the clays before but it sounds like a wonderful addition. Would love to try these! Thanks for the info!!!

  46. I love Trina and all of her products so it would be fabulous to also try the gum serum. Primal Life Organics is the greatest line of products!

  47. I would love to try this! My family is just starting to try and go natural. I have a question though, I thought aluminum was bad for you? I see it is in two if the clays above.

    • MYTH: Aluminum in Clay is dangerous.
FALSE. Aluminum is part of the structural make up of all clays. The aluminum in Calcium Bentonite Clay is in a safe oxide form, not the dangerous man-made processed aluminum. The many trace minerals in Calcium Bentonite Clay are fused together into a super compound structure known as a clay particle, which cannot break down and cannot be absorbed by your body.

      Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/033381_bentonite_clay_detox.html#ixzz27n0DCyIy

Thanks for asking the question! By the way, the baking soda IS aluminum free.

      • Interesting products for teeth and gums, and thanks for the clarification on the aluminums (your 9/28/12 reply). You’re saying primal clay promotes remineralization of the teeth by providing trace minerals for absorption, yet you say the trace minerals are fused together into a super compound structure (the “clay particle”) and cannot be absorbed into your body. Either they can or they can’t…which is it?

  48. I’ve been using a product for about a year now that is all natural, however much to my own dismay I’ve discovered it’s not that great and it has been staining my teeth, love the idea of these products I wonder if she sends to Aistralia or if this will be another awesome product I can’t get here. PS I clicked the link to the store and it didn’t work this could just be my phone being stupid.

  49. That was mean to read Australia :/

    • Yes I do ship internationally. Shipping rates are listed on my website. Thanks for asking Jane

  50. Oooh, this would be a big step up from the straight up baking soda I’ve been using. I’ve been wanting to try some Primal Life Organics products for so long! :)

  51. I imagine this product would leave one’s mouth feeling very clean and fresh, and wouldn’t dry out the mouth like regular toothpaste or sting chapped lips like baking soda does, or leave the sink all oily as it does when brushing with olive oil!

  52. Sounds great!
I will be adding this too my list of “needed brand items” for after baby gets here in November if I don’t win!:-)
Currently we(husband and I) use baking soda and coconut oil for our “tooth paste” since I refuse to buy any of the nasty ingredients that are in chimerical ones!;-) He has been wanting me to make some for him(I have a friend who makes natural stuff, and he is still stuck on the lack of flavor with BS) but I’m not into making stuff….so he has to try and get said friend to give him some every once in a while!Lol
Anyways, this product sounds great thanks for the heads up about it!:-)

    ~~Abi

  53. I have been looking for a good toothpaste alternative. I hope I win!

  54. intriguing products! i have been using baking soda but i would love to try something new. :) thanks for the great opportunity.

  55. I would love to try these! I’ve never heard of tooth powder before. I’ve been using Jason Naturals brand toothpaste for a few years now, mainly to avoid the fluoride, artificial colors and sweeteners in regular toothpaste. I’ve noticed such a difference in how my mouth feels since the switch – fluoride is some seriously scary stuff!! Anywho, I’d be really interested in trying products that are even closer to nature – the way it should be! Happy winner picking, Evelyn =)

  56. this looks so great. i’ve tried to make tooth powder myself before and failed. looking forward to trying this!

  57. I bet this would be helpful for my father who has metastatic melanoma of the liver. I’ve taken him off most SAD cleaners and gotten him on a paleo diet but have not yet found a toothpaste less toxic than Tom’s of Maine. I bet this would help lessen the toxic load on his liver.

  58. I would love some toothpowder! TRying to heal some cavities myself at the moment to avoid expensive dentists costs (well, and not drill into my teeth!)

  59. You had me at cinnamon!

  60. I’ve been wanting to switch from commercial toothpaste but haven’t quite hit that step. I’d love to try this out!

  61. I use toothpaste with fluoride even though I know it’s bad for me. It sounds stupid, but I like how white the brand makes my teeth. I know I need to switch it up and prioritize my health. I would definitely be interested in trying this.

  62. I love the thorough description of the products. I have wanted to change to something more natural but have not been sure what to use! I am hoping remineralization can fix the tiny cracks or pits I notice.

  63. Interesting:) I wonder if my daughter will like it. All of the “natural” toothpastes have at least one or more ingredients that are harmful. These products look great!

  64. Would absolutely love to try this product! Might end up buying either way, but I tried using straight baking soda and my teeth didn’t stay white very long. I do drink straight black tea every morning. After all the other lifestyle changes we’ve made, I would like to get this whole oral health thing squared away.

  65. My friend is a holistic specialist and recommends French green clay for everything from brushing your teeth to a facial masque to internal cleansing. It sounds like a unique tooth powder that is worth trying.

  66. I have so much trouble with my enamal being erroded (thanks to puking my way through 3 pregnancies), I have to use the sensative toothpastes. I would love something natural that would hopefully work better to strengthen my enamal. I will definitely be trying this!

  67. The contest is over but Primal Life Organics is offering a 10% discount till Wednesday. Just enter “boost” at check out. Good for any product.

    • Awesome! Thanks, Peggy!! Just what I needed to finally make a purchase over there!
I am getting the Infiniti Moisturizer and the tooth powder!!! Yipee!!!! Very excited!!!

  68. My daughter, husband and I have always suffered from dental issues like cavities despiste brushing everyday! (Of course, before we were on the SAD diet as well!) I have noticed a change since I have switched my diet but I have worried about what was in my toothpaste, and (especially) my daughters toothpaste as well. I have a feeling the toothpaste she is using isn’t really good for her teeth and caused her fist cavity, at four years old! But getting a four year old to switch from a fruity flavored toothpaste to anything natural is difficult. She cries if it tastes bad so I CAN’T force it on her. I would love to try this and find out that it tastes good too! Hey, that is another good idea for the company- a naturally fruitty flavored toothpowder for kids! It would help any mom with young kids who is switching to primal. Just a thought.

    • That is a great idea. She does have an orange flavored tooth powder. I haven’t tried it though.

  69. Just this past week I started brushing using essential oils (thyme and clove) and its been diferent but I like it so far. Last month I started eliminating chemicals from my cleaning routine, first shampoos, then soaps and now toothpaste, my next step would be face moisturizer and shave products. I hope evelyn choose me.

  70. I brush with coconut oil and cinnamon occasionally now because the tooth powder I picked up at Whole Foods is so abrasive. Once I stopped using glycerin toothpaste my two front teeth started re-mineralizing almost overnight and I can no longer see the pink of my tongue through them. I do have this sore gum issue where the gum by my upper right 2nd canine is sore all the time and it doesn’t bleed, it is weird. Oh also oil pulling with coconut oil is awesome!

  71. I bought the Bare Primal Face Wash and deodorant from Primal Life Organics about a month ago. The deodorant works very well and the face wash is the best that I have ever used! I look forward to trying some more of their products.

  72. These sound great, but I thought it was dangerous to ingest aluminum. Like cooking in aluminum cookware is supposed to be unhealthy.
