The Primal Parent

Weekend Reading

I’ve been meaning to add links on the blog to some of the stuff I read during the week. I am going to start the habit right now with the articles currently open in my browser. For future weekend posts, though, I will post a compiled list of links I save throughout the week.

So, for now, here is what I read today; next time, you’ll get  a little broader taste of the week.

Womb Wound - Lauren, a friend on my Primal Parent Facebook Page, sent me this. I love it and know readers here will too. The author explains what menstruation is and why it can sometimes be heavy. Oh, and what to do to prevent it.

Nestle CEO: Water Is Not A Human Right, Should Be Privatized - A friend I work with posted this one for me on my personal page.

13 LIBROS PARA NIÑOS ESCRITOS POR GENIOS LITERARIOS - The same friend passed this over as well. The article is in Spanish but you can see the author’s names are the author’s names. Do a search for them on Amazon and pick them up in English.

Photographic Evidence: Bird-Brained Birds Are Smarter Than Vegans - This was a refreshing bit of writing that showed up in my inbox this morning by Richard Nikoley.

How to Really Eat Like a Hunter-Gatherer: Why the Paleo Diet Is Half-Baked - A critique of the Paleo diet showed up in the Scientific American. This was such a terrible article. Friends on Facebook already commented on it like crazy. I’d love to hear your thoughts too.

Paleo author Peggy Emch talks about primal eating, nakedness and getting pregnant - I was interviewed by a blogger on the Denver’s Westword yesterday. I think the interview was pretty cool.

And here’s a funny little video. It’s funny about something totally not funny.

  3. Dear Peggy,
Great blog :) One question… I’ve been following you for ages and didn’t realise that Julian is now your husband!! When did this happen?! :)

  4. Wow, thanks for that little Colbert Report. I gotta start watching that again… too funny!

As for the whole Paleo diet thing, I am SO SICK of the haters who nit-pick the details of the diet and cherry-pick comments to support their view. Anyone who actually does the diet knows that it’s a template and that it’s one that makes sense. I like one comment on that article where the reader challenged the author to debunk the Paleo diet by proving that the Standard American Diet is healthier. Go ahead and really prove that a diet of whole grains and vegetable oils is healthier than a Paleo template.

I did that to my brother once. He was challenging me when I first switched to a Paleo diet, and I asked him, “Okay, but what do oats have that you can’t get from eating fruits and vegetables?”

He looked at me, smiled, and said, “It has… oats?” Point made.
